Built on compassion and services, we are committed to supporting a healthier and more connected community.
Our Story
The Peter McKee Community Centre is named in honour of Peter McKee, a Catholic priest
who served several local churches and dedicated much of his life to supporting the Greater
Moncton community. In addition to his ministry, he served as chaplain for the Moncton Fire
Department and the Royal Canadian Legion & Ladies Auxiliary.
Beyond the church, Peter was deeply involved in community service and advocacy. He served
on the boards of numerous organizations, including St. Thomas University, House of
Nazareth, St. Patrick’s Family Centre, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Villa Providence in
Shediac. He also helped found the Ray of Hope Soup Kitchen and was an active member of
both the Knights of Columbus and the Irishtown Lions Club.
In recognition of his lifelong commitment to helping others, Peter received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the local Rotary Club in 2000. He passed away in 2006 at the age of 69, leaving behind a lasting legacy of compassion, leadership, and community care.
Today, the Peter McKee Community Centre continues that legacy by bringing together three Moncton food banks into one Community Food Centre. Through a holistic, community-based approach to food security, the Centre supports more than 1,500 families and individuals with access to healthy food, education, and essential community programs.
